Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
Every child has the fundamental right to learn, grow, and flourish in an atmosphere free from harm, fear, and neglect.
1. Our Sacred Duty of Care
At Potasfield Schools, our Christian foundation places the highest moral and institutional value on the sanctity, security, and well-being of every learner entrusted to our custody. In full alignment with the Child's Rights Act (2003) and the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Executive Order, we operate a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of child abuse, exploitation, corporal punishment, bullying, or negligence.
2. Core Safeguarding Principles
- The Child's Welfare is Paramount: All academic, extracurricular, and disciplinary considerations are secondary to the safety and physical well-being of the student.
- Safe Staff Recruitment: Every academic, non-academic, security, and boarding staff undergoes rigorous background verification, reference cross-checking, and mandatory child protection training prior to assumption of duty.
- Zero Tolerance for Bullying & Hazing: We maintain strict anti-bullying policies across both day and boarding houses. Peer intimidation, initiation rituals, or aggressive conduct results in decisive disciplinary action.
- Transparent Disciplinary Guidelines: Corporal punishment is strictly forbidden. Behavioral corrections emphasize restorative reflection, godly mentoring, parental conferences, and counseling.
3. Boarding House Safeguards
Potasfield College hostels feature segregated male and female quarters managed by resident House Masters and House Mistresses. Security measures include:
- 24/7 on-campus security personnel and perimeter fencing.
- Strict biometric or signed visitor verification; no unauthorized adult is permitted inside residential dormitories.
- Registered resident nurse overseeing the sickbay with prompt hospital evacuation protocols.
- Monitored scheduled communication times for boarders to speak with parents.
4. Reporting & Whistleblowing Procedure
Any student, parent, or staff member who observes or suspects conduct contrary to the safety of a child is strongly encouraged and protected to report immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL):
